To the editor:
I was at Robinson Park on Saturday, July 5 for the children’s activities with my son, his father and grandparents. However, I was disgusted by many of the parents when they started the money grab.
I understand helping your child but this was beyond help. I saw parents digging for the quarters and throwing them in baggies while the child was sitting nearby. Many of the children didn’t even have their hands in the pool of seed.
My son had daddy sitting behind him, and daddy just watched as mommy took pictures (Yes, I have pictures of the parents digging). This was for the children, they were digging for quarters not $50 bills.
I know I am not the only person that saw this, I did hear other stories; one where a lady offered money to get the adults to stop, another where the child couldn’t participate because some adults wouldn’t move to let the little guy in. If your child can’t dig for quarters with their own hands, then you should wait until next year to let them participate in such an event.
My son found three quarters. He was happy to bring them home and feed them to his piggy bank. This was a great event for children, my son had a good time.
Too bad some people are so hard up for a few quarters they had to take them away from little kids.
