Man charged with burglary, threats, drug possession

 Richard Joseph Zuk

A Sturgeon Lake man is facing felony charges after incidents on July 23. Richard Joseph Zuk, 41, is being charged with first degree burglary, second degree burglary, terroristic threats and drug possession.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Pine County Court, the Pine County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 2:45 a.m. reporting that Zuk was knocking on the door and ringing the doorbell of a Sturgeon Lake residence. The caller said they suspected the man had been drinking and had left in a Ford Fusion. The car was identified as belonging to Zuk and a deputy began responding to the defendant’s address. On his way to the location the deputy saw the car heading toward him, and the driver stopped next to the deputy’s car and agreed to speak with him.

During this time dispatch received another call regarding the defendant entering another nearby residence without permission. According to the second caller, Zuk entered her home, walked into her bedroom and asked her if she wanted to have sex. When she said no, he asked how much it would take to be able to rape her daughter. He had also been in the daughter’s room.

Upon Zuk exiting his vehicle the deputy noticed a small plastic bag containing a white substance which later NIK tested positive for methamphetamine. He was read his rights and proceeded to tell the deputy that he had been in Sandstone earlier to buy a drug nicknamed “ice” and admitted to going to the two houses to see if they wanted to “hang out.” Zuk told the deputy he turns into a “sex robot” when he uses “ice” and that it was the drugs that influenced him to go into the house.

Investigators later determined two reports were made to the Moose Lake Police Department on July 13 of the defendant approaching an adult female and a 14-year-old female for sex.

Zuk is facing 20 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine for the felony charge of first degree burglary, 10 years and/or a $20,000 fine for the second degree burglary charge and five years and/or a $10,000 fine for terroristic threats and drug possession charges.
