Two rescued after being buried alive

A North Memorial Air Care helicopter landed in a yard near the site of the accident on Edgewater Road.

Two men were hospitalized after the hole they were digging collapsed around them on Tuesday, June 18.

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office reports that at 4:32 p.m. on June 18, Pine County 911 received a call of a construction site accident on Edgewater Road NE in Pine City.

The caller reported two workers were in a hole when it partially collapsed around them. Initial information was the workers were about 12 feet down and buried up to their chests.

Deputies, along with Pine City Fire, Pine EMS and Essentia ambulance were dispatched to the scene. North Memorial Air Care was also dispatched.

Both workers were able to be dug out of the hole in less than 20 minutes. Both were transported to the hospital for evaluation of their injuries. The investigation will be turned over to OSHA for follow up.
