Barbara Kay (Olson) Slater of Pine City passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at the University of Minnesota Hospital, after a 20-year fight with a rare liver disease; she was 68.

Barb was born on Oct. 24, 1951, to Gordy and Bea Olson in Benson before moving to White Bear Lake. The oldest of three girls, Barb shared a wonderful childhood with sisters Diane and Janice. Together with Paul Schmid, she had two beloved daughters, Amy and Molly.

In 1996, Barb met and married her everlasting love, Mike Slater, shortly before they moved to Pine City. It was here where she made so many memories with family and friends, enjoyed gardening and playing pranks on her grandchildren. Tossing sticky frogs, starting tomato fights or making balloon-filled moose antlers out of pantyhose were just some of the eye-watering fun and out-of-control laughter Barb created with her family.

Barb is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Mike Slater of Pine City; daughters Amy (Brendan) Loughrey and Molly (Todd) Sullivan; sisters Diane (John) Barth and Janice (Chad) Peterson; grandchildren Blake and Brett Loughrey, Thomas and Anna Sullivan; nieces Erin (Mitch) Kuntz, Stephanie Barth and nephews Brett (Laura) Peterson, Steven Barth and Drew Peterson.

Barb was a dedicated servant of the Lord, working as a volunteer at Zion Lutheran Church in Pine City
