Diane R. Biernat

Diane was born in Minneapolis on Dec. 15, 1941, and joined God’s Choir in Portland, Oregon on June 9, 2019.

Diane attended St. Ann’s Catholic School through 8th grade then graduated from Minneapolis North High School in 1959. In high school, she excelled in choir and received a trophy for her secretarial skills. Diane worked as a cashier for the Red Owl grocery stores and then as a secretary for the American Automobile Association. In 1962 Diane married John P. Biernat and moved to Coon Rapids. John worked for American Monarch Company but soon started his own business named Biernat Engineering Company which designed and manufactured circuit boards enabling both to work at home. The family soon grew with the addition of three boys, Joel, Jim and Jason.

In 1972 the family moved to a small farm between Grasston and Henriette and modified the barn to accommodate the business. By 1977, the business ended and Diane started her own business becoming a Tupperware dealer while John worked in Hinckley for Nord Photo Engineering.

In 1979 the family moved to Sherwood, Oregon. John passed away in 1981. Diane found secretarial work with a few smaller companies and eventually with Tektronics, Sprint and Benefit Design Group.

Diane loved her boys and became a grandmother to Garrett in 1995. Diane helped her boys with school, 4-H, Vacation Bible School, hosted Bible studies and was involved with the creation of the Henriette Church Cookbook. Diane’s interests included the church, choir, music, band, cooking, sewing, gardening, plants, horses, baseball, collecting many giraffes and angels.

 A celebration of life was held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sherwood, Oregon on Saturday, July 27, 2019.

Diane was preceded in death her husband John P. Biernat, sister Dee Dee Butler, nephew Julian Schwartz and parents Raymond and Beatrice (Beauchaine) Prochaska.

Diane is survived by her children: Joel A. (Michele) Biernat, Jim A. Biernat, Jason J. Biernat; grandson Garrett D. Biernat; sister Darlene (Charles) Prochaska; niece Erika (Phillip) Hilgaertner and daughter; nephew Anton (Rachel) Ptak and sons; nephew Andre (Dawn) Ptak and sons; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Patricia Schwartz.
