Donald “Don” C. Sears, age 83, of Sandstone passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020.
Don was born on Dec. 20, 1936 to Bert and Flossie (Eccles) Sears in Finlayson. He went to school in Finlayson and Sandstone then went to work on the ships on the great lakes during his younger years with his brothers, Albert and Gene. Don lived in many different places throughout his life including California, Circle Pines here in Minnesota, where he was a welder at Butler Manufacturing, Isanti where he worked as a milker on farms, and Sandstone. He found his forever home in Sandstone though. Don worked hard to get his Journeyman in the electrical field and also to become a certified welder. He worked throughout his life as an electrician in the union construction business. Don enjoyed being outdoors whether it was playing softball, golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, or spending time out on his beloved land in the Nemadji Forest, the outdoors made Don happy. He loved to spend time with his children and his grandchildren, they all made him smile. If Don wasn’t outdoors or with his family you knew he was traveling and spending the winter months down in Texas.
Don is preceded in death by his wife, Delores Sears; his youngest beloved son, Ronald Sears; his parents, Bert and Flossie; his sisters, Ruth Myrvold, Ruby Miller; his brothers, Charlie Sears, Lloyd Sears; and great-grandson, Dante Sears.
Don is survived by his son, Donnie of Montevideo; daughters, Sheryl Sears of Grasston, Lorie (Mark) Schmidt of Gary, South Dakota, Barb Johnson of Ogilvie; sister Esther Schaefer of Superior, Wisconsin; brothers, Gene Sears of Sandstone, Albert Sears of Indiana; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
