Douglas John Kubesh, age 59, passed away on July 29, 2019, at Sandstone Health Care Center.
Douglas John Kubesh was born on Oct. 16, 1959, to Walter and Joan Kubesh. He grew up on the family farm. Douglas worked at different places but his two favorites were over the road trucking coast to coast and in 2002, he found his dream job at the Grand Casino in Hinckley as a groundskeeper. That is where employees became friends and became his second family. Douglas enjoyed zipping around the grounds, mowing the lawn and helping out during the events that the casino had during the years. When he was not working, you were sure to see him at any auctions, looking for the treasures or adding to his tool collection. And of course, catching up on the news in the area.
Everything changed on June 2, 2018, when he was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer.
He was preceded by his parents, Walter and Joan, his grandparents and other loved ones.
Douglas is survived by his brothers, Micheal and Bruce (Jennifer) of Hinckley, his nephew Brian, his niece Allison, Uncle Ted and Aunt Gloria of Blaine, Uncle Leonard Sigurdsen and family of Grasston, friend Allan Lamberth, many cousins and friends and his casino family. Honorary pallbearers are Chester (Janice) Gustafson, Donald Larson, Al (Mary Jane) Borchard, John Plank and Doug Hagle.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Tatting-Methven Funeral Chapel in Hinckley from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Arrangements by Tatting Methven Funeral and Cremation Services in Hinckley.
