Joanne J. Smith

Joanne Jean (Wilhelm) Smith aka “Jo,” “JJ,” passed of metastasized breast cancer Saturday, May 18, 2019, with her family at her side and near in heart at United Hospital, St. Paul, at the age of 75.

Joanne was born to Franklin and Eleanor (Harrigan) Wilhelm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 23, 1944.

She married her soulmate James Smith in 1963, of 42 years and is survived by one brother, four children, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Her beloved pets: Nille and Porky were her “family.”

Joanne relocated to West St. Paul once she was widowed in 2005, from the beautiful Cross Lake home she and her husband remodeled in Pine City where they planned to spend the rest of their lives together.

Jo will be remembered for her friendliness with an ability to strike up a conversation with ANYONE, for her fiery determination, and mostly for her fierce love for those she deeply cared for.

Graveside memorial service interment will be led by Pastor Tom Evans at Hilltop Cemetery in Pine City on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m. Her ashes will be buried along with her beloved husband, Jim. Following the service, there will be a luncheon at Our Redeemer Church in Pine City. All who knew and loved them are welcome to attend both and are invited to bring a favored photo to share.
