Arnold ‘Arnie’ Pangerl

Arnold “Arnie” Pangerl age 89 of Pine City, passed away on Tuesday evening Nov. 11 at Fairview-Lakes Hospital in Wyoming, Minnesota.

Arnie was born on May 21, 1925 to Magdeline (Rothenbacher) and Edward Pangerl of Royalton Township. He attended District #7 country school in Royalton Township through the eighth grade. When he started school, he could only speak the German language. In the 1940s, he played hockey with the Pine City hockey team. He also had a great singing voice. Many times you could walk by the barn and hear him singing some Bob Wills songs. Sometimes he would make up words when he knew Marcie was nearby. Arnie loved to deer hunt with his buddies in Nickerson, Minnesota. They were called “the old weasel gang.”  He did this for 50 years.

Arnie met Marcella Hinze at a dance at the Topic Ballroom in Pine City. They were married on June 2, 1948. To this union three children were born:  Judy in 1950, Dale in 1951 and Eddy in 1954. The first year of married life was spent in Portland, Oregon working at the Planner Mills. After one year he said he was tired of the damp winter air so he wanted to come back to Minnesota and start farming.  He farmed for over 40 years.  They first rented a farm in West Rock before buying the farm on the Brunswick Road where they lived until this farm was sold in 1990.

Arnie was Clerk of Royalton Township for many years.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for 67 years. He was a very big fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings even though he would get frustrated when they would lose. He was a fan through and through.

He is survived by daughter Judy (Paul) Mueller of Apple Valley; sons: Dale (Jackie) Ek-Pangerl of White Bear Lake, and Ed (Joy) Pangerl of Pine City; grandchildren: Dawn (Matt) Wuest of Rosemount, Chris (Monica) Mueller of  Rosemount, Steven (Elizabeth) Pangerl of White Bear Lake, Jeana (Matt) Hill of Coon Rapids, Deanna (Luke) Steiner of White Bear Lake, Katie (Andy) Daniels of Lakeville, Colleen (Dusty) Emslander of Somerset, Wisconsin, Andrea Pangerl of White Bear Lake, Mitchell (Marie) Pangerl of Pine City, Danny Pangerl of Wyoming, and Eddie Pangerl Jr. of Pine City.
