Daniel V. Koller

Dan Koller passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at his North Branch home at the age of 80.

Daniel Victor Koller was born on Feb. 26, 1934 in St. Paul to Steven and Louise Koller. Daniel attended Adams grade school in St. Paul until 1948 when he started Monroe High School. In 1952 Dan joined the United States Marine Corps. He served with them from March 24 until June of 1952, when his brother Ben was killed while serving with the United States Air Force. Dan was honorably discharged at this time.

Dan then went to work for Eco Lab and remained there until he was drafted by the U. S. Army in December of 1954. He spent six months at Fort Riley in Kansas for basic training, then the next eighteen months in Schwienfurt, Germany training and touring with the army in Germany, France and Italy.

Dan returned to work at Eco Lab as a computer operator and eventually became a manager of the Data Processing Department. He left Eco Lab and bought a liquor store in Minneapolis which he owned until his divorce from his first wife. They had three children:  Heidi, Dan and Lisa. He then sold carpet cleaning equipment until he met Shirley Rose and they were married. He went into apartment management business with Shirley. Dan and Shirley bought a home on Pokegama Lake in the Pine City area. After moving to Pine City he went to work for the Pine City School District for a period of time.

Dan was a member of the Heath-Perkins American Legion Post #51. He became commander and was the gambling manager for six years. His pride and joy was becoming the commander of the Heath-Perkins American Legion Post #51 Honor Guard.

Dan is survived by wife Shirley; his children: Heidi Koller (Mike Lehman) of New Brighton, Daniel S. (Becky) Koller of Maple Grove, Lisa (Eric) Peterson of Andover, Debra (Dennis) Roach of Woodbury; 12 grandchildren: Scott, Lisa, Michelle, Erin, Tyler, Hailey, Brandon, Shala, Shelby, Jonathan, Andrew and Michael; seven great-grandchildren: Brennan, Brianna, Alexa, Ty, Gavin, Giana and Brendt; one great- great-grandson, Garret, and one sister, Mae Steichen of St. Paul.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents Steven and Louise Koller; brothers: Richard, Harvey, Steve and Ben; and sisters: Bertha, Louise, Ann and Lila.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Pine City Evangelical Free Church Lighthouse in Pine City with Pastor Lyn Sahr officiating. Music was provided by Becky Koller, Linda Meier, Larry, David and Beverly Rose. Casketbearers were Eric Peterson, Tyler Peterson, Ben Koller, Larry Parks, Brian Rose and Darwin Morse.

Interment was in the Birchwood Cemetery of Pine City. Military honors were by the Heath-Perkins American Legion Post #51, the Novak-Milliren VFW Post #4258 and the Minnesota National Guard.
