William ‘Butch’ A. Sauerwein

William “Butch” Sauerwein passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at his home in Pine City at the age of 78.

William Adolph Sauerwein was born Oct. 26, 1941, to William and Dorothy (Schiller) Sauerwein in St. Paul. After high school graduation Butch enlisted in the United States Navy. In 1961, while home on leave Butch met Erma Wolfgram; they married Oct. 31, 1963. Butch and Erma made their home in Pine City after many years of enjoying cabin life and commuting from their home in Vadnais Heights. Butch enjoyed canoeing on the Snake River and camping in the boundary waters with his family. He loved his family and enjoyed all the chaos at holiday time, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William is survived by his loving wife Erma Sauerwein of Pine City; children William (Robyn) Sauerwein of Minneapolis, Brenda Sauerwein of Stacy, Brian (Katherine) Sauerwein of White Bear Lake, Cynthia (Ervin) Kleinschmidt of Stacy, Cortez Sauerwein of Minneapolis; grandchildren Brandon Kabits, Stefan Cook, Ryan Nelson, Lauren Sauerwein, Elliott Kleinschmidt, Dylan Sauerwein, Stephanie Kleinschmidt, Westin Kleinschmidt, Cassiel Jones, Honesty Sauerwein; great-grandchildren Hazel Nelson, Colton Cook, Mabel Nelson, Chole Cook; brother Thomas Sauerwein; sisters Margaret (Eugene) Mahoney, Dorothy (Joseph) Steiner; many other relatives and friends.;

William was preceded in death by his parents William and Dorothy Sauerwein; brother Robert Sauerwein, brother-in-law Joseph Steiner.

Reverend Fred Hanson officiated at funeral services for William on Friday, Dec. 27 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City. Interment took place at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Mahtomedi.
