To the Editor:

I once thought that orchids grew only in the tropics such as Hawaii. A  few years ago I was invited  to  a bog in northern Minnesota. While there we saw at least five varieties of orchids, pitcher plants and fly traps.

I also learned that not all of our orchids need bogs. There are prairie varieties and now I saw the woods variety growing not far from where I live.

It pays to be inquisitive and explore  new areas and at different times of the year. Good hunting.
