To the Editor:
My name is Scott Cummings. I was born and raised in Pine City. This is my hometown and I love my hometown.
I have led two lives in 59 years. The old life doing whatever I wanted. The truth is, I was a sinner. I was many things to many people, but as much as I tried to sober up, clean up my act, and be a good man, I could not, because I did not have Jesus in my heart.
Why am I writing this letter? My life is new because of Jesus. The pattern for my life has been changed and I no longer live for myself. That is for everyone who calls themselves a Christian.
Easter is upon us and people are struggling to find peace. The coronavirus has people running scared. Imagine Europe when the Black Plague broke out. Imagine what towns looked like after WWI or WWII? Not that long ago, polio was the threat.
In the Bible, scripture says what Christians should do, living the new life.
To keep this short, I will quote verses one through three of Colossians (New Living Translation). (1) Since you have been raised to new life (with) Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God’s right hand in the place of honor and power. (2) Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on Earth. (3) For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden (with) Christ in God.
As we move towards remembering Christ, his life, death, and resurrection, remember, He did it for us. Death and the grave have no power over us. To those who do not know Jesus, it’s time. Jesus is the answer and that is the truth. New life, new peace, forgiveness of sins, and life everlasting. God’s promise.
