Pokegama Lake Association marked its 10th year of bringing both environmental information and hands-on presentations to area fifth and sixth graders through the association’s Fresh Water Fair.
On Thursday, May 15, the sun was shining as 281 students from Pine City, St. Mary’s, Hinckley, Moose Lake and East Central elementary schools arrived at Voyageur Park to attend presentations throughout the day.
Presentations included “Raptors” by the Audubon Center of the North Woods; “Watersheds” by the University of Minnesota Extension Center of Mora; “Incredible Journey” by the Pine County Soil and Water Conservation District; “Fisheries” by the DNR Fisheries Division in Hinckley; “Three Rivers” by the Science Museum; “Forests” by the DNR Forestry Divison in Mora; “Rivers Alive” by the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway; and Sam Ting’s presentation on the food chain by Tom Gibson Jr., a professional environmental educator.
