Everist Speltz, 80, of Stillwater, Minn., passed away May 4.

A long-time announcer for horse shows in Minnesota and Wisconsin, Speltz was named Horseperson of the Year by the Minnesota Horse Council in 1986.

Roy Shumway (left), 64, of Ramsey,

Minn., passed away May 5 after a long illness. Shumway and his wife, Carolyn, were named Horsepersons of the Year by the MHC in 2004.
