A motorcyclist led police on a high speed chase Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 that began in Braham and ended 16 minutes later in North Branch when the Honda crotchrocket crashed.

The 24-year-old Minneapolis driver was not injured.

It was the second high speed chase that began in Braham within a five-day period.

THE CHASE

The chase began when Isanti County Deputy Chad Meyer clocked a vehicle driving southbound on Highway 65 near Highway 107 at 92 miles per hour. He flipped on his lights to pull the driver over, but instead the driver accelerated.

The chase continued down Highway 65 to Cambridge, where the motorcyclist turned east and followed Highway 95 through to North Branch.

Speeds reached over 130 miles an hour.

At times, officers from the Braham Police Department, Cambridge Police Department, North Branch Police Department and Chisago County Sheriff's Department assisted.

In North Branch, the driver turned south along Grand Avenue. When the road came to a T at 372nd, the driver lost control of the motorcycle and it crashed.

Lakes Region ambulance transported Zachary Paul Perry to Cambridge Medical Center. There he was treated and released.

There was no indication of alcohol at the scene, but blood tests were done and results were not available as of press time.

The entire chase lasted 16 minutes and covered 27 miles.

Perry is being charged with fleeing a peace office in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, not having a motorcycle endorsement, violating a motorcycle instructional permit, and failing to stop at a traffic control signal.

PREVIOUS CHASE

Just five days previously 20-year-old James Allen Lind of Braham led police on a chase that ended when he collided into a squad car in Pine County. He was finally apprehended when a taser was applied to him.
