Dragon volleyball had a challenging week this week, hosting Rush City on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and traveling to Braham on Thursday, Oct. 10.
On Tuesday, the Dragons took their first conference loss to Rush City 0-3. Pine City struggled to make plays on the court.
“We definitely did not play our game that night – I think the pressure of what that game meant got to them,” said coach Tami Nelson.
Leading the Dragons in serving was Ellie Hasz with four ace serves. Ashley Faur led the team with eight kills. Kelsey Erickson and Ashley Faur each had seven digs to lead the team defensively.
On Thursday, Pine City traveled to play Braham.
“We knew this game would be a battle and knew we had to put Tuesday’s game behind us and come out swinging,” said coach Nelson. “We definitely played our game and defeated the Bombers 3-1.”
Offensively the team was led in serving by Ashley Faur with six ace serves, followed by Ellie Hasz with five and Meredith Kolling with four. Ellie Hasz led the team with 14 kills, followed by Ashley Faur with 12 kills. Makenna Nelson had 26 set assists for the night.
Defensively, Ashley Faur led the team with four solo blocks and three block assists. Faur also led the Dragons in digs with 20. Kelsey Erickson had 18 digs, Kensi Tayerle had 14 digs, Makenna Nelson had 13 and Ellie Hasz added 11 to the Dragons’ total digs.
Pine City volleyball will have their first round playoff game on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
