Dragon volleyball hosted Cloquet on Wednesday, Oct. 23 to begin sectional playoffs.

Pine City was not serving well that night, and gave away many points to missed serves; however, they pulled together and defeated the Lumberjacks 3-0. Leading the Dragons in serving were Meredith Kolling with three ace serves, followed by Makenna Nelson with two aces. Leading Pine City offensively were Ashley Faur with 10 kills, followed by Ellie Hasz  with nine and Meredith Kolling with seven. Makenna Nelson had 21 set assists and Katelyn Lorsung had five.

Leading the team defensively were Ellie Hasz and Ashley Faur with three solo blocks each. Ashley Faur had 17 digs and Makenna Nelson had 10 for the match.

Thursday Pine City traveled to Esko for their second playoff game. The Dragons were defeated by the Eskomos 1-3.

“We started slowly and were not moving to the ball as we normally do, losing the first game 13-25, said coach Tami Nelson. “The girls fought much harder in the second game, but came up short, losing 21-25.”

 Being down 0-2, the Dragons didn’t give up and fought for every point in the third game, winning 25-22. The fourth game was a true battle back and forth. Pine City left it all on the court but came up short, losing 22-25.

Leading the team serving were Meredith Kolling, Ellie Hasz and Ashley Faur with two ace serves. Offensively Pine City was led by Ellie Hasz and Ashley Faur with 14 kills, followed by Meredith Kolling with six kills. Makenna Nelson has 28 set assists, Katelyn Lorsung and Kloey Lind  each had two set assists. Defensively the Dragons were led by Ashley Faur and Ellie Hasz with two solo blocks each and Kloey Lind had one block. Makenna Nelson led the team with 16 digs, Meredith Kolling had 10 and Ellie Hasz had nine.
