“The kids did a very nice job of moving the ball and finding our shooters in rhythm with their feet ready,” said coach Ted Hasz.

The Dragons battled for a big section win in Milaca.  The game was back and forth throughout, with Milaca leading much of the first half; however, Pine City finished the first half with the run that would give them the lead, 29-26. In the second half, the Dragons continued to lead and were able to knock down their free throws to clinch the win, going 28 for 34 from the line.

Sophie Lahti went nine for 11 at the line and finished with 21 points, seven total rebounds and three steals.  Ellie Hasz went 10 for 11 at the line and finished with 17 points and three total rebounds.

Pine City 63, East Central 56

The Dragons finished the week on the road for the third time in five days to take on East Central. East Central is the second place team in the Great River Conference.

“It is tough to play three games in five days, especially if all three are on the road,” said coach Hasz.  “We were proud of the kids for finding a way to get the job done against a very scrappy East Central team who came into the game with a very good 15-5 record.”

The Dragons led 29-19 at half time and were up by as many as 15 points in the second half, but East Central battled, hitting big shots to keep themselves in the game. The Dragons had very balanced scoring with five players in double figures.  Lily Wilson had 14 points and  Sophie Lahti had 14 points each. Ellie Hasz had 11 points. Ashley Faur and Meredith Kolling both ended the night with 10 points each.

It was another good week for Pine City girls basketball as the Dragons have five more games to get ready for a run in the playoffs.
