The Pine City 10U hockey team is having a phenomenal year. Their current record is 20-2-3. The two losses we have had have been in tournaments. The first loss was to hockey power house Eden Prarie with a score of 2-4 in the championship game. The second loss was also in a tournament to Cloquet, who is ranked 1st in the state. For what it’s worth, in the youth hockey hub rankings we are ranked #9 in the state. We are undefeated in our local District 10 competitive section with a record of 15-0-3. Our district is comprised of well established North Metro teams. We have demoralized district opponents Champlin/Coon Rapids 12-1, Elk River 9-1, Northern Edge 9-1, Mora 13-0, along with many other impressive wins including Sibly 18-1. We have been approached by several other teams in the state including #2 ranked Grand Rapids to play a more competitive team than what they have been facing up on the Iron Range which is a hockey hotbed.
Many of the girls have siblings playing on the boy’s varsity teams, and also the new girl’s varsity hockey team that will be formed next year for the 2020-2021 season. 8 of the girls on this team moved up a level early to put this team together and 5 of them have been on the team for 3 years. The coaching staff has either played or coached the Dragon boy’s high school team. So if you are wondering what the future of girl’s hockey will be like in year’s to come, there is your answer. The U12 team has taken 1st and 2nd place respectively in tournaments this season, and the U15 team has competed relentlessly against state ranked opponents they have faced. The teams are surrounded by immense support from dedicated parents and coaches who have worked very hard to make girls hockey in Pine City a huge success and the dream of a varsity hockey team come to a reality.
