The Dragon girls tennis team had a great battle with Pierz on Thursday, Sept. 5, and came home with a 5-2 victory.
Pine City sealed the victory with solid play and quick wins with first and second singles and first doubles. Battling to three sets and coming out strong were Addison Sell at third singles and the third doubles duo of Claire Emmons and Malia Mikyska.
Addison Sell was down in the third set and came back to win in a tie breaker. Her mental toughness and competitive play helped her finish strong and win her match. The match was hinging on a win from third singles or third doubles as the Dragons were 3-2 in team scores as the matches were winding down. Third doubles battled back to win the second set and decisively finished the match with a 6-1 win in the third set.
“The team played well and closed out on big points. I am proud of their efforts,” said coach Kristin Unverzagt. “We are looking forward to hosting the Eberhart Invitational this Saturday where we will face teams in our section.”
