Spring cleaning with a smile

As Tammy Sward was was walking down Liberty Road SE on Monday she spotted in the distance two people going in and out of the ditches with black garbage bags. It was Courtney and Chloe Gerner, who were on long boards picking up garbage left behind after the long winter. Their bags were full to the top and heavy, and these were not the first two bags the young women had picked up that day – they had already had their dad pick up other filled-up garbage bags earlier.

“It totally warmed my heart,” Sward said.  “I told them they could leave the bags at the end of my driveway and I would take care of them and ... I told them how proud I was.”
